Politics at Present in One Line

I'm not making analogies between individuals - my interest is underlying motivations and behaviour.

People get away with what they can get away with.  Selfish and aggressive individuals, whatever their pathology, will always push the rules a bit to see how much anybody cares.

Every political scandal we have faced over the past couple of decades, and particularly right now where they seem to be so acute, traces back to that fact.

When we don't pay attention to how the system works, when we don't question and buy into partisan rhetoric because it's been sugar-coated to appeal, we aren't holding government to account.  We aren't engaging in our system, either.

We can blame them for pushing the boundaries, but after all - it was you and me who let it happen.
