The Divine In Us All

A human being is part of a whole, called by us the “universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few people near us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

There's just us, folks.  Us, as individuals, all the way down to our cells and all the way up to the ecosystem.  We are part of the divine nature of existence; that means it's part of each of us, too.

There's just us.  But we have an urge to be part of something bigger than ourselves, don't we?  Humans are hard-wired to seek meaning - in the spiritual, the mystical, in the stars.  We look everywhere, it seems, but at ourselves.  The reason for this is that we still cling to fear more than we're willing to hope.  We still feel that success is something that is wrenched from others or imposed, not collaborated on.

When we trust, understand, plan and work together, it's enough.

To love another person is to see the face of God.
